Want to catch crabs? – Just stick your hands into the water and grab it!

Grab a crab

Storm surges, currents, waves and tides are the main reason for coastal erosion. Mangroves however can stabilize the coastline with their intricate root system and forming mangroves swamps.

Not only can they stop a declining coast, but they also have perfect living conditions, making it attractive to fish and other organisms seeking food and shelter from predators. But that doesn’t work when humans are the predators…

While touring a mangrove swamp you may see a lot of different animals. And some of them are edible. But I don’t know if you want to… However, when the tide is low and about to recede it should be not too muddy so you could go for a big catch – with your bare hands.

Look out for a big crab (and make sure it is a crab), then stick your hands into the water and just grab it… It really is that simple. But please remember to preserve the mangroves and this tender wildlife habitat. So don’t catch too many crabs…
